Domestic Abuse

Rising from Ashes

The young girl of 6 buries herself into the corner of the kitchen. She watches her mother punch him in the face and he falls back hitting the wall. The kitchen falls silent, except for the heavy breathing that fills the air.

The young girl looks into her father’s face and sees for the first time the look of defeat. For all the hurting he gave, he never anticipated to get anything back.

It is this moment that will be remembered as a grown woman. The young girl clings to her mother’s strength. Its elusiveness makes it threatening and difficult to beat away. Even by a man’s fist. It is an unknown, buried strength in the depths of a woman’s soul.
